  • Blake Schuman, I enjoy learning from Mr. Stockdale because he has tons of experience and has been teaching for a long time. He knows what he’s talking about and he doesn’t give you the ability to play one song, he gives you the ability to play any song. Mon May 04, 2020

  • Adam Mlynarczyk    My daughter has been taking lessons for about 6 months and her abilities are amazing. She loves John and he is so accommodating and professional. My 12-year-old daughter went from never holding a guitar to playing songs and singing almost every night. Amazing. Sat May 09, 2020

Anna C.   Since being a student at Stockdale School I have learned so much about the guitar. Mr. Stockdale is an amazing teacher. He makes learning fun, believes in having a fun lesson, and then having a work lesson, and allows you to pick what you want to learn about on your fun days. He teaches about all the different aspects of music. He makes sure that you understand what you are being taught. This is an amazing atmosphere to learn about music.

Stockdale School of Music’s reply: Anna, you are becoming quite a musician. You sound confident on the guitar, you know the piano and bass also your singing is beautiful! You can read, you know key signatures, chord construction and progressions and so much more. I’m proud of you! Jazz is becoming your thing I believe! Apr 2, 2020

Lucy S.   John Stockdale is a great teacher and is very good with plenty of instruments. He is very talented. Being one of his students has helped me extend my knowledge of reading music and actually understanding the chords and how to make new chords.

Stockdale School of Music’s reply: Thank you, Lucy! You always ask good questions and that confirms we are on the same page which in turn shows immediate growth. Need to get you singing the songs you are learning! Your attitude will get you far in life in whatever you do! Mar 30, 2020

Jeremy H.   John has taught me a lot. He is truly passionate about music and enjoys sharing his knowledge with his students.

Stockdale School of Music’s reply: I’m excited every time you come in for a session because you’re one of those cats that studies and just won’t put down the instrument. I dig that. Looking forward to watching you grow! The improvisation classes seem to really help out! Mar 30, 2020

Kerry J.   I’ve been taking lessons from John for a year and a half. He’s a great instructor.

Stockdale School of Music’s reply: Thanks, Kerry! You’ve studied lots of styles and instruments in that short time as well! You started on Acoustic then went to Electric and now your Bass tone is sounding really solid along with the confidence in reading rhythms and now it’s on to ukelele land for you! Let’s not forget the piano, chord construction, and key signatures! You are really well rounded here! The way to do it! Mar 29, 2020

Larry E.   I have been taking guitar lessons with John for about 2 years. I never thought that I would like a classical guitar but with the help of John’s instruction, it is now my favorite subject. I have limited time to practice because of my workload but he is always very patient with me and provides excellent classical guitar tablature and instruction that keeps me challenged and motivated. He is extremely knowledgable and I hope to continue my guitar training with John for years to come. I really like knowing that many of John’s family were musicians and/or studied music. It shows in his love for music and his devotion to making me a better guitarist and musician. I highly recommend John as an instructor regardless of whether you want to play guitar, bass, piano, or any other musical instrument. …Read more

Stockdale School of Music’s reply: Thank you, Larry! Your reading skills on the staff are increasing a bit of a faster rate not only in the first position but in 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th. A lot of students are happy reading or can only read notes in the first position and take too long reading anything past. Rhythm is also another topic you are getting better at especially in the variations of 16th notes. You should congratulate yourself more on your tone and technique- you’ve come a long way! Tempi-vs-rubato is the ultimate challenge ahead when you are ready. I’m happy to have you as a student and wish I had more like you. Mar 29, 2020
