IMPROV SEEDS

Improv Seeds
by John Stockdale

Includes; 25 guitarists 3 licks or more each to help condition chops and build creativity and 25 techniques!

I had all these lines by artists handwritten in pencil for years. I got a program and typed a bunch out. I made a 36-page book a year ago that I give a page or two to guitar students here and there. Only guitar lead lines, I say, “play these as fast as you can for fun!” Then we alter the lines into our own.

Came out to be 380 measures of music so far. Still adding on!

These self transcribed motific developments, sequences and lines are from artists such as Jason Becker, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, Tony Macalpine, Eric Johnson, Andy James, Gary Moore, Glen Drover, Michael Amott, Steve Morse, Shawn Lane, Vinnie Moore, George Lynch, Greg Howe, Randy Rhoads, John Petrucci, Dimebag Darell, Matt Heafy, Frank Gambale, Jeff Loomis, Nuno Bettencourt, Jake E. Lee and blah blah blah. The book keeps getting bigger and more difficult along the way.

The techniques are basic for conditioning:
Alternate picking (starting up or down)
Economy picking
Double picking
Fan picking
Sweep picking
Legato
Slide
Roll-off
String skip
Whammy bar
Tap
Pinch harmonics
Artificial harmonics
Vibrato slow-med-fast-wide-circle
Palm-muting
Frethand muting
1/2, whole and minor 3rd bends
Spill downs
Hold, bend, release, vibrato
Bend and vibrato
And more

Work all the lead fragments/ostinatos with a metronome or rubato

Study:
Scales
Diads
Triads
4-note arpeggios
Sequences
Rhythm
And more

I’ll have video demonstration of all transcriptions available on my website soon. Keep in touch!

Take the line and transpose it to other keys, harmonic or melodic minor or alter tones of the line or add chromaticism, change rhythm simply by using the line itself as a starting point for improvisational purposes.

This is the rock/ metal/ prog version. I have the same in Jazz with Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and more including a bunch of Holdsworth Chords and lines, Scott Henderson and more. If you need Classical or anything specific or something transcribed, just text me what you are interested in.

Just text me!
